American Idol’s 17th Season premiered on 3rd March 2019. Ryan Seacrest continued to perform his duties as the host. And Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry returned as the judges for the season for the second time. The in-house mentor for this season was Bobby Bones, and he was also the guest host for the taped episode of 8th April 2019.
In the Week 3 episode that aired on May 5th 2019, the top 6 of the contestants performed to be part of the elusive American Idol 2019’s top 6. On this episode, the contestants were asked to sing something from 1969’s Woodstock Festival, a song that inspires the contestants personally. This week’s mentor was Lauren Daigle, who is America’s contemporary Christian songwriter and singer.
Madison was a 17-year old crowd favorite from Cohoes, NY and she finished third on the season. In the finale, she performed Shallow by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, and in the second round, she performed Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson. All three judges had a lot of praise for the young singer, and she carried on with her outstanding performances all the way to the end of the season. During the auditions, she sang Speechless and then in the Showcase round she decided to sing Who’s Lovin’ You. After exhibiting her vocal range repeatedly, she advanced to the final.
Laine was born in Baton Rouge and was raised in Livingston, Louisiana. He was first auditioned for the show’s 16th season, but his journey was short-lived. He didn’t audition for the 17th season and was here only to play guitar for his friend Aston Gill at her audition. Laine was encouraged by all three judges to go for the audition again. This time around it made and actually won the season.
Laine sang The Weight and received the Golden Ticket. In Hollywood Week he chose Proud Mary and She Talks To Angels for his solo performances and selected Grenade for the group performance. He advanced to the Top 20 when he gave the performance Come Together in the Showcase Round.
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon
Jeremiah also born in Louisiana but was brought up in Catonsville, Maryland. He started songwriting when he was in Virginia, and he performed in the Lynchstock Music Festival for three consecutive years. Before entering the Idol, Jeremiah had already released his two songs. One was his four-song EP with Harding Street Assembly Lab, and in 2018 he released Learn to Love with Glass Village Studios.
Jeremiah sang Almost Like Heaven and gave an emotional performance in Hollywood Week with Beautiful. For the solo rounds he picked The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. He sang W All Fall In Love Sometimes for the top 14 show.
Laci Kaye Booth
The 23-year old from Livingstone, Texas, had a dream to win the show from when she was only 7. She was a huge fan of Carrie Underwood, and she also voted for her. Laci’s father Jody is a touring country music performer as well. Music joined them both when her father invited her to record with him in Arkansas. Her song I want you to want me for the cover of Cheap Tricks was a hot favorite for the judges and the viewers.
She performed live in LA and transformed a classic rock into a country ballad. During the duet sections of the show, Laci got paired with Brett Young who is a country music icon. They both sang Mercy from Young, and he immediately became Laci’s fan saying that her voice is very smoky and interesting yet natural.
During the auditions, she sang Mama Tried and then in the Hollywood Week she chose A Natural Woman. She was also in the group of ten called Diamond Dixies and sang Grenade. As her final solo performance, she chose Stars. During the showcase round she performed Georgia On My Mind. After that, she was controversially saved by the judges from elimination but got eliminated the next week.
Also known as Scarypoolparty Alejandro is from Pomona, California and is the runner-up of the 17th season. He didn’t start playing music until he was 20 and then started with singing and playing the guitar. Scarypoolparty was his stage name. Alejandro was the artist of the Year in 2017 in the annual contest for talent that was conducted by California State University and Five by Five Entertainment, Northridge.
Alejandro during his American Idol journey sang original songs on seven different occasions. In the finale, all three songs of Alejandro were originals. During the auditions, he sang two of the originals Out Loud and Cholo Love. During Hollywood Week he went with Sorry and was one of the ten in the group. For the final solo, he chose another original named Ten Years and then advanced into Top 40.
From Phoenix, Arizona came another fan favorite who amassed so much popularity with his songs during the season that more than half of the season’s viewers thought that he was robbed when he got voted out. Wade never ended in the bottom 2 throughout the season during his stay. He garnered a lot of fan following because of his unique voice. According to a number of viewers, he had his own charisma and brought a lot to the table when you compare him with the other contestants.
Nine years ago he auditioned for American Idol and failed which made him to quit metal. This time around, he auditioned by singing Blame It On Me. During Hollywood Week, he went with Litost, and for the solo rounds, he sang an original titled Stay. In the group performance, he sang California Dreamin’. He, along with Laci, got eliminated for the fourth-fifth place because of the lowest number of votes.
The Week 3 of the Season 17
From the top 6, Jeremiah was the one who got eliminated, and most of the fans were quite upset about it. In Week 3 of the season, all of the contestants had to sing two songs from the Woodstock Festival. Madison sang Piece Of My Heart, and I Surrender. Laine Hardy sang I Don’t Need No Doctor and Johnny B. Goode.
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon decided to go with Swing Low, Sweet Chariot and Somewhere. Laci Kaye Booth went with To Love Somebody and Open Arms. Alejandro sang White Rabbit and his original Poison. And Wade Cota decided to sing With A Little Help From My Friends and Through The Valley.
During this episode, the judges also used their save. They decided to keep Laci safe; consequently, Jeremiah got eliminated. This is considered to be one of the controversial decisions from the judges. Most of the viewers expected to see Laci go instead of Jeremiah.
